MYSTIC, Conn. (AP) — The Coast Guard has rescued 17 passengers from a Martha’s Vineyard-based schooner that ran aground off Connecticut.
The 126-foot schooner Alabama, with 17 passengers and five crew members on aboard, ran aground near the mouth of the Mystic River at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday.
A New London-based Coast Guard crew quickly located the schooner and safely transferred the passengers to the Noank Shipyard in Groton.
Investigators are scheduled to determine the integrity of the vessel prior to the vessel operating again.
No injuries or pollution were reported.
The Alabama’s home port is Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts. Built in 1926, it now offers recreational cruises.
