YARMOUTH – It was an emotional and bittersweet day at Yarmouth Police headquarters Wednesday as K-9 Nero made a visit, less than two weeks after his handler, Sgt. Sean Gannon, was shot and killed while serving a warrant in Marstons Mills.
Nero was also shot and has been recovering at a local veterinary hospital.
In recent days, he returned home with retired Yarmouth Police K9 Handler Peter McClelland, who stayed with him in the hospital for 144 hours straight.
Nero will eventually head back to the Gannon home.
On Wednesday, Nero was brought to YPD for a visit.
Sgt. Gannon’s wake and funeral were held last week and attracted more than 5,000 members of law enforcement to the services.
A career criminal with 125 prior charges is facing murder charges in Gannon’s death.
