Sandwich Approves $10,000 Piano Restoration, Passes $72 Million Budget

GavelSANDWICH – An “old girl” was the topic of much discussion at last night’s Sandwich Town Meeting.

The old girl was a piano dated from 1895 that currently resides in Sandwich Town Hall.

After debate, Town Meeting approved a $10,000 restoration for the piano.

Town Meeting also approved the $72 million budget and a $54,899 appropriation to fund future public beach and dune renourishment projects.

Also getting discussion was a zoning bylaw that would have banned long-term use of exterior storage pods on private property. Town Meeting turned down the bylaw.

The Sandwich Annual Town Election is Thursday, May 7. Three people are running for one open seat on the board of selectmen. James W. Pierce is the incumbent and he is being challenged by Peter Beauchemin and David L. Darling.

The Sandwich School Committee also has a contested race with four people running for three positions. Lois Wack is the incumbent.  Seeking to unseat her are Elizabeth Ellen Cummings, Stephanie Urschel Hall and James P. McGrail.
