HYANNIS – Hyannis Fire Chief Harold Brunelle said he and other fire department staff are working to spread the word to the community about the revised plans for a new fire station.
The new plans show a smaller and less expensive building than the plan that failed to garner the required two-thirds approval from voters at a standing-room-only district meeting in March.
Brunelle said fire officials are making a big push to sell the plan to the voters of the district through the district’s website and through social media.
The $18.9 million station is $1 million less than the previous plans.
District officials say the sale of two district properties could also offset the cost by as much as $2 million. One property is the old Hyannisport Fire Station on Scudder Avenue. The other is a commercial property on Pitcher’s Way.
If the new proposal passes, the owner of a home priced at $328,000, which is the median value in the district, would pay a total of $3,000 spread over 30 years.
The vote is scheduled for July 1 at 7 p.m. at Barnstable High School.
