Updated Friday 5 PM: Arrest warrant issued after man fatally shot in Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH – A man was reportedly shot in the Myles Standish State Forest sometime after 2 PM Wednesday. Multiple Mass State Police and local units converged on the scene at Fearing Pond. Rescuers were reportedly performing CPR in the victim who was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz later identified the victim as Robert Aponte-Flores, 25, of New Bedford. Plymouth Police reported that a person of interest was detained a short time later but determined not to be involved. D.A. Cruz added that Aponte-Flores was shot multiple times. An altercation in the park picnic reportedly led to the shooting.

From Plymouth County D.A.’s office: An arrest warrant has issued for a male wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Myles Standish State Forest, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

On Wednesday, at approximately 2:40 PM, Plymouth Police received several 911 calls for a report of a shooting at Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth and a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Upon arrival, Plymouth Police and first responders located the male victim, and he was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth Hospital where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. He was identified as Robert Aponte-Flores, 25, of New Bedford.

Plymouth Police contacted Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Multiple witnesses on scene described that an altercation took place in a picnic area of the park between the victim and John Geovanni Pires Monteiromacedo, 20, prior to the shooting. As a result, Massachusetts State Police sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Monteiromacedo.
