
CHATHAM – A small plane reportedly went off the runway at Chatham Municipal Airport into some bushes around 5:15 PM Sunday. Four people onboard the aircraft escaped without injury. Flight tracking showed the plane had departed Wilmington, NC. The FAA will investigate the incident.
From Chatham Police: On 11/30/2025, at 5:22 PM, Chatham Police and Fire/Rescue were dispatched to the Chatham Airport, 240 George Ryder Road for a report that a small plane had left the runway and crashed into a fence and wood line at the runway’s edge.
It was also reported that the plane’s four occupants were outside of the aircraft and were not reporting any injuries. There was no reported fire. There are no reported hazards.
On public safety’s arrival, the pilot and passengers were located. The pilot, (age 51, from Truro MA), and the following passengers: Passenger (1) (age 47, from Truro), passenger (2) (age 18, from Truro) and passenger (3) (age 17, from Sandwich), all declined medical attention. Chatham Airport Officials were also on scene shortly after the incident was reported.
The aircraft remains at the airport today awaiting the arrival of the FAA and Mass Aeronautics Commission, who will be in charge of the investigation. He cause of this crash is currently under investigation.
As of this release the airport is open to aircraft traffic.
