Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Hosts Shark Week This Summer

A great white shark.

A great white shark.

CHATHAM – The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is hoping to pique the interest of kids on summer break with a couple of events at the Marconi Maritime Center and Cape Cod Museum of Natural History.

The Conservancy is offering kids ages seven to nine a Shark Week Summer Program.

The one-week program will introduce youth to shark biology through hands on activities, outdoor experiences, and traditional camp games altered to be shark themed.

Programs will be led by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Education Director Marianne Long, along with staff from host sites.

Programs will keep a ratio of one staff member to every seven kids and will be land based.

The Marconi Maritime Center will host a week program in July and the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History will host two week-long programs in August.

Cynthia Wigren with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy says it is a great program for kids.

“It’s a unique opportunity really to connect the children and communities to the work and research that’s taking place off our coast,” said Wigren.
