PROVINCETOWN – The Provincetown International Film Festival has announced the recipient of this year’s Filmmaker on the Edge Award. It will be comedian-turned-director Bobcat Goldthwait.

Goldthwait will be honored at the festival, along with comedienne Jennifer Coolidge.

Goldthwait has directed a documentary film, “Call Me Lucky,” which will be shown at the festival.

The 17th annual festival, which this year features more than 48 films, takes place June 17 to 21.

Goldthwait will be honored during an event at Town Hall, a conversation with resident artist John Waters on Saturday, June 20. Coolidge will receive the Faith Hubley Career Achievement Award that same evening, in conversation with film critic B. Ruby Rich.

“This year’s honorees underscore the importance of comedy to independent film—not only surprising and delighting us, but boldly and subversively pushing boundaries. Both Bobcat and Jennifer are masters of their craft,” said Andrew Peterson, Provincetown International Film Festival Director of Programming.

Additionally, the festival will also host a double billing of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws and Noel Marshall’s Roar at the Wellfleet Drive-In on Wednesday, June 17. John Waters will present a special screening of Killer Joe, directed by William Friedkin, on Sunday, June 21.

The festival will open with Leslye Headland’s Sleeping with Other People and close with I Am Michael, directed by Justin Kelly. Spotlight Films are James Ponsoldt’s The End of the Tour, Paul Weitz’s Grandma and Jeffrey Schwarz’s Tab Hunter Confidential.
