EAST FALMOUTH – The 47th annual Cape Cod Scallop Fest is coming to the Cape Cod Fairgrounds on September 23.
The weekend event runs until September 25 and features fried scallop and chicken dinners, beer and wine gardens, kids’ rides and a juried arts and crafts show.
The festival is the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce’s largest fundraiser with over 40 local business sponsors taking part.
“It’s something that we take pride in, again it’s 47 years of doing the scallop fest and it’s grown to a very large event and we think people just love it, it’s truly a family-oriented event and people will have lots of fun,” said Chamber President Marie Oliva.
Multiple musical acts have also been announced for this year’s fest, with a different genre of music to be featured each day.
Entrain will bring a mix of rock, blues, calypso, jazz and funk to the main stage on Friday night.
Country artist Kristen Merlin of The Voice, will headline the event on Saturday evening and Cash is King, which recreates Johnny Cash, will perform Sunday afternoon.
Themes include Americana music on Friday, country on Saturday and Tribute bands on Sunday.
Around 500 volunteers will also help out for the event, serving scallop dinners, conducting security and running retail shops.
Oliva said that the event is draws a lot of people.
“We average about 25-30,000 people, about 10,000 a day or so, and we think it’s just a great place to come,” said Oliva.
