Center for Coastal Studies Hosts Annual Bounty Banquet

PROVINCETOWN – The Center for Coastal Studies Marine Debris and Plastics Program will be hosting the Local Bounty Banquet on November 19.

The event will celebrate “sensibility to the ocean’s resources,” specifically the efforts made by the CCS and commercial fishermen in retrieving lost fishing equipment, such as nets, ropes, and traps.

These efforts have improved the health of the Cape Cod Bay’s ecosystem. Over 85,000 pounds of lost gear has been recovered since 2013.

This banquet will follow in the same spirit as the Trash Fish Banquet. Held from 1979 to 1999, that event and fundraiser also looked to improve the ocean’s resources.

The Local Bounty Banquet will begin with a cocktail hour at the Center for Coastal Studies at 5 p.m. A buffet will be held at St. Peter’s event hall.

Laura Ludwig of the program will give a presentation about the efforts made to recover lost equipment. Local seafood, live music, and an artwork exhibit will be featured.
