Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod Employees Raise Nearly $3K for Hurricane Relief

HARWICH – Employees of a local bank have raised nearly $3,000 for hurricane relief for wearing blue jeans.

The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod workers held three different special Charity Jeans Days to raise money for the local chapter of the American Red Cross for Harvey, Irma and Maria relief.

Employees made donations to be able to wear the jeans on Fridays between the normal Charity Jeans Days, which are held every other Friday.

The usual donations are made to one of 26 local non-profits.

“Without any assistance from the Bank, our colleagues raised almost $3,000 for hurricane relief,” said Lisa Oliver, the President and CEO of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod.

“This was completely driven by our employees and we wanted to respond to their amazing generosity by offering a bank match.”

The bank matched the amount raised to donate over $5,000 to the Red Cross.

“I’m overwhelmed by the local response of our community,” said Hilary Greene, the executive director of the American Red Cross of the Cape, Islands and Southeast MA. “I’m grateful to the Coop and its employees for their generosity.”
