Department of Revenue Helping Taxpayers Affected By Tornado

Massachusetts State House.

BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Revenue has announced that it’s taking steps to address the concerns of taxpayers in Barnstable, Brewster, Chatham, Harwich, Mashpee, Sandwich and Yarmouth who have been affected by last week’s tornadoes.

The Department is waiving any penalties associated with any late-filed return or payment that was due on or after July 23rd and before November 15th.

The department will waive the penalties for four months, and will later revisit whether any further extensions should be granted.

Officials said that they recognize that taxpayers in the towns might be unable to comply with their tax filing or payment due dates that occurred on or after the date of the major storm.

Any taxpayer in the affected areas who receive notice of a penalty for the period are asked to contact the Department of Revenue at 617-887-6367.
