Eversource Recognized with 2019 Defense Employer Support Freedom Award

HYANNIS – Eversource Energy has been recognized with the 2019 Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the nation’s highest honor recognizing its support of employees in the military.

Eversource was one of 15 companies selected from 2,500 nominations to receive the award.

“We’re honored to be recognized for our commitment to our veteran and military reserve employees,” said Eversource Chairman, President and CEO Jim Judge.

“We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our Guardsmen, Reservists and veterans, whether it be a time of peace, crisis or war, we will always recognize, thank and support our service members.”

Eversource’s recruitment and military reserve policies make it one of the nation’s leading companies for veterans and other service members.

Of the 8,000 employees working for Eversource, more than 600 have proudly served in the military.

“About 80 percent of the folks I work with are military veterans,” said Control Room Supervisor for Eversource and United States Veteran Bill Gelinas.

“You know military members bring a unique way of thinking to solving problems.”

The energy company offers advancement programs that provide opportunities to apply military training in a supervisory level position.

In addition, the Eversource Veterans Association, made up of employees who served the country, provides support and recognition to current veteran employees and raises funds to support military veterans throughout New England.

“Hopefully this is catalyst for other employers in New England to see that there is a lot of value to hiring military folks, especially those in the Guard or Reserves,” continued Gelinas.

The Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is administered by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Since 1966 the mission of this Department of Defense program is to promote relations and the understanding between military reservists and their civilian employers.
