Former Falmouth Fire Chief Dies After Lung Cancer Battle

FALMOUTH – Former Falmouth Fire Chief Paul Brodeur died earlier this month after a battle with lung cancer.

He was 71.

Brodeur passed away on January 20 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich.

He retired in 2010 after a 34 year career with the Falmouth Fire Department, the last 13 as chief.

According to his obituary, Brodeur was born in South Hadley, graduated from Holyoke High School and attended the Stockbridge School at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

In 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid.

Brodeur joined the Falmouth Fire Department in 1976, rising through the ranks until he was named chief in 1996. He was credited with helping renovate and expand the Main St. Station

Brodeur is survived by his wife, son, daughter and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this past weekend.
