Provincetown’s Free Celebration of Life Concert set for Friday

PROVINCETOWN – The historic sanctuary of Provincetown’s Unitarian Universalist Meeting House will host the 26th annual Celebration of Life concert next week.

The concert is Provincetown’s longest running free music festival and is a celebration of music, life, memory, and joy.

Hundreds of performers have shared their talents at the concert throughout the years.

This year’s performers reflect a focus on international music and culture and include Paul Bisaccia, Alex Brewer, Laura Cappello, Chan Varon Collins, Peter Donnelly, Sue Goldberg, Billy Hough, Frederick Jordy, Zoë Lewis, Ken Lonergan, Zoran Matich, Mozelle, Hilde Oleson, Phoebe Otis, Jonathan Richardson, Scarbie, Christopher Sidoli, John Thomas, Janet Villas, Rev. Kate Wilkinson, Wendy Willard, and other surprises.

The Celebration of Life’s spirit is another expressions of the caregiving capacity that Provincetown’s people continue to express in their daily lives.

The show is produced and hosted by John Thomas and co-sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House of Provincetown and “Great Music” on Sundays at 5.

It is presented in association with the annual Provincetown Swim for Life and Paddler Flotilla.

Thomas, who has produced all 26 years of the concert, recalls its origins, “A friend and I came up with the idea of a ‘Celebration of Life’ free community concert on the first Friday after Labor Day, which is the night before the annual Swim for Life benefit.”

“It became part of a wonderful and unique weekend involving multiple events where thousands come together to help each other remember, to celebrate community and to raise funds for health and care of those who live here.”

The concert is free in every aspect of the word: free admission, free performances, free space, time, and labor.

“The Celebration of Life concert is a free event, we do not charge any admission fee or accept any donations, and almost everything is done without money. It’s all the energy of giving and receiving and sharing our time, talent, enthusiasm and presence,” continued Thomas.

The event is set to take place Friday, September 6th starting at 6 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House located at 236 Commercial Street, Provincetown.
