Falmouth Academy Girls Building Steam Toward Postseason

KINGSTON – Utilizing a more balanced offensive attack on the road last night, the 17-3 Falmouth Academy girls’ basketball team staked itself an early lead and never looked back en route to a 53-41 win against host Sacred Heart.

Freshman Kendall Currence led the Mariners with 16 points and Jane Earley added 11 points while four Academy girls netted six points apiece – Eliza Van Voorhis, Taylor Mulhearn, Christie Brake and Clemmie Pring.

Sacred Heart’s Lauren Melchionda led all scorers with 22 points on the night, followed by Caroline Sheen with 14 points.

The visiting Mariners put up a 10-4 lead in the first quarter, but then took off running in the second frame with Currence scoring six points and Earley scoring eight points.

By halftime, it was Falmouth Academy, 26-13 and by the end of three frames, 43-26.

The victory for Falmouth academy was its last regular season game before the MIAA South Sectionals. Seeding will be announced sometime around February 24.
