Down 1-0, heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, Houston’s Connor Wong led the Sox off with a walk and then came home on Noda’s first Cape League home run of the season to give Y-D a 2-1 lead it would not relinquish. Billingsley drove in a pair of key insurance runs in the seventh with a baseknock the Y-D leadoff man went 3-4 on the night with two RBI.

Fresno State southpaw Ricky Thomas took his record to 3-0 on the season after turning in six innings of one-run, four-hit baseball on the night, while striking out seven. He walked just one and dropped his earned run average to 1.01 on the season with the win.

Luke Persico (UCLA) went 2-3 for Chatham with one RBI – a solo home run in the 8th inning, but it was not enough to bridge the gap against the hosts.

All but two Cape League games were rained out Sunday night. The Y-D Red Sox hosted Chatham, as noted above, and Orleans hosted the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in a battle between both divisional first place teams.
