BOURNE — Some days the puck just won’t go where you want it to.
With the exception being at Gallo Ice Arena yesterday afternoon when King Philip came to town and handed the host Sandwich Blue Knights a tough, 5-1 loss.
The visitors scored two goals in the first period, one in the second and a pair in the third before Sandwich got on the board with a goal from senior defenseman Colleen MacDonald, assisted by senior forward Annabelle White at the 4:41 mark of the final frame.
All totaled there were 10 penalties called in this affair, with two of King Philip’s goals coming on power plays. Sandwich’s lone score also came on a power play as the visitors were penalized six times in all throughout the game.
It was a rough day for the usually stoic Ally Hir in goal, but Sandwich head coach Stephen Noll was quick to come to his all-star’s defense, citing that the Blue Knights did not do a great job placing themselves between the Sandwich net, the Blue Knights’ goalie and the puck.
“We left her alone for most of the day,” Noll said. “Not our best effort. Very sluggish, but stuff happens sometimes that you can’t control. The kids know and tried their best. Sometimes you just don’t get the bounces. That was today.”
The non-league loss drops the Blue Knights’ girls to an even 8-8-1 on the regular season. The girls have four regular season games left on the docket but still have a good shot at qualifying for the postseason.
“We gave a good effort and outshot their team, 2-1. King Philip did a nice job blocking (our) shots, ” Noll said.
