Falmouth Hospital has Baby Boom During Storm

BABYFALMOUTH – Both of the Cape’s hospitals were at capacity during the storm, but Falmouth Hospital had more visitors than it planned for.

There were 10 babies born at Falmouth Hospital during the two-day storm. That is way above the typical one baby born per day.

Cape Cod Healthcare spokeswoman Robin Lord said the number of births came as a surprise. “The maternity unit there is very full,” she said. “We had enough staff. They had about 30 staff that stayed overnight in the hospital.

She said, because of the storm, hospital staff worked hard to help patients with transportation issues.

“Our security staff has been out really for two straight days, picking up staff, taking staff home, taking patients home. We check before we take patients home to make sure they have power and they are plowed out,” she said.

She said both hospitals are full, as they have been for the last month or so.
