PROVINCETOWN – A special four-day festival honoring Tennessee Williams has long been one of the highlights of Provincetown’s ‘Second Summer’ when the cool breezes, crisp blue skies and laid-back atmosphere make for one of the finest times to visit.
This year, the festival will honor Tennessee Williams with a Eugene O’Neill emphasis.
Both noted playwrights thrived in Provincetown, which is considered the birthplace of modern American theater for the first production of O’Neill’s play “Bound East for Cardiff” in 1916.
The unique culture of Provincetown and the unconventional performance spaces with actors from theater groups across the country and around the world make this festival astonish fans year after year.
The 11th annual Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival opens on September 22 and runs until the 25th and offers intriguing theater experiences.
Some of this season’s performances include a South African production of O’Neill’s ‘Desire Under the Elms’, the dynamic and athletic ‘The Hairy Ape’ and Williams’ ‘A Perfect Analysis Given by a Parrot’ performed with puppets and live actors.
The festival also makes use of a variety of Provincetown venues including Napi’s Restaurant, Velvet Lounge and the Wharf House at the Provincetown Marina.
