MASHPEE – Mashpee Fire Fighters were alerted by a passerby of a brush fire on the state side of South Cape Beach shortly after 8 AM Thursday morning.
It took some time to find the exact location, deep in the woods off of Wills Work Road in a State Conservation area. Crews discovered two fires in the area, A mutual aid brush breaker was requested from Cotuit and the State Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) also sent equipment,
The first Fire was contained to 3-4 acres by 10 AM and the second fire was contained before 11 AM. It was not clear how, it is unknown how large it is.
The State DCR decided to do a controlled burn to completely control the area, they will be there for most of the day.
The fire is under investigation by Mashpee Fire and State Fire Control.
