Harwich Harbormaster presents citation awards for ferry accident rescue efforts

HARWICH – Harwich Harbormaster John Rendon made a presentation of Unit Citation Awards Monday night to those who assisted in the response in the Steamship Authority ferry accident last month.

Harbormasters and their staff from several Cape Cod towns responded to the scene when the fast ferry Iyanough went into the rock at the Hyannis breakwater.

There were 48 passengers, 6 crew members and 3 food service workers onboard when the vessel grounded. Fifteen people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with various injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Coast Guard and the Steamship Authority.
