UPDATED: Man killed in accident at Hyannis quarry business

HYANNIS – From Barnstable Police: On Tuesday at 1 PM. Barnstable Police responded to Quarry Industries at 70 Corporation Street in Hyannis for an industrial related accident which has left a 49-year-old Centerville man dead.

Arriving officers found Elvis De Almeida Ribeiro, an employee of Quarry Industries, unresponsive and not breathing. Ribeiro had been part of a crew moving a section of marble when he became pinned beneath the large slab. Barnstable Officers initiated CPR and Ribeiro was transported to Cape Cod Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Barnstable Police Department, Massachusetts State Police CPAC unit, and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). Ribeiro was residing locally but originated from Brazil where his family still lives. He had been an employee of Quarry Industries for approximately 2 months.
