BOURNE – A major crash was reported on the Scenic Highway (Route 6) in Bourne shortly before 1 PM Tuesday. The collision was reported at the Edge Hill Road intersection. Firefighters had to extricate at least one person from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life. Several people were being evaluated. Eversource was requested to check two utility poles at the crash scene. Traffic delays were likely and motorists may want to use Sandwich Road as an alternate.

Update from Bourne Police: Tuesday at approximately 12:43 PM, Officers from the Bourne Police Department responded to reports of a multiple car motor vehicle crash, with injury, on Scenic Hwy. in the area of Edgehill Rd. Upon officers arriving on the scene, they determined that three vehicles were involved in the crash. It was also learned that one of the vehicles contained a large sized dog and Bourne’s Department of Natural Resources was requested to the scene. Unfortunately, the dog succumbed to its’ injuries at the scene. Each of the vehicles involved in the crash contained two occupants and Bourne Fire and Rescue requested mutual aid assistance from Wareham EMS and Brewster Ambulance. Four occupants were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Two occupants declined to be transported to the hospital. A preliminary investigation revealed that one of the involved vehicles attempted an improper left turn while exiting a rest area and collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound. Both vehicles ended up in the westbound lane, where the collision with the third vehicle occurred. The accident is still currently under investigation by the Bourne Police Department.
