COTUIT – Fire heavily damaged a house in Cotuit late Saturday evening. Flames were visible when crews arrived at the house on Content Lane shortly after 11 PM. All occupants reportedly safely evacuated the residence. The State Fire Marshal’s office was notified to investigate the cause of the fire.
Update from Cotuit Fire: At 11:06 PM on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, the Cotuit Fire Department received a telephone report of a structure fire with people in the building at 60 Content Lane. The fire Cotuit unit arrived on scene at 11:10 PM to find a single-story residenceital structure heavily involved in fire. The residence of the building reported that everyone had made it safely out of the house. Companies quickly went to work extinguishing the fire and conducted searches of the house to ensure there were unaccounted-for occupants remaining in the residence. A working fire assignment was transmitted bringing fire companies from Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills, Mashpee, Hyannis, West Barnstable and Joint Base Cape Cod Fire Departments. Seven residents were displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Corss. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation with the assistance of the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Barnstable Police Department.
From Mass Department of Fire Services (10/03): State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office and Cotuit FD determined that this fire started in the kitchen and found no evidence that it was intentionally set. The exact cause is currently undetermined but most likely related to an electrical or appliance failure.
