TRURO – Hundreds of Truro residents packed into Truro Central School last night to vote on 33 articles on the warrant during the Annual Town Meeting.

During the four-hour meeting, voters approved a $17 million budget but rejected two zoning amendments, including one to redefine the definition of streets and frontage, something the Chairman of the Truro Board of Selectmen Jay Coburn said would overburden the town.

Town meeting also rejected a zoning article which would have allowed seasonal condominiums to be used year-round. Despite its defeat, Coburn said it will be reworked and would ultimately be a positive for the town.

Voters also approved several amendments to the town charter.

In addition, voters also narrowly approved a smoking ban at all town beaches.

Truro voters will head for the polls May 12 for the town’s annual election.
