HYANNIS – A Baby Center, a program of the Cape Cod Council of Churches, will be collecting donated diapers as part of National Diaper Need Awareness Week in the state.
The organization collects and purchases diapers and distributes them for free to low-income households on the Cape and Islands with babies under the age of three.
About 15,000 diapers are distributed monthly to about 500 babies.
“One in three American families struggle to provide enough diapers for their babies and Cape Cod is no different,” said Mary Pat Piersons, co-director of A Baby Center.
The organization is accepting donations of diapers, wipes or financial contributions.
Volunteers can also hold diaper drives, bring diapers to book club meetings and invite friends to collect diapers.
“Rich or poor, babies are born and they’re in this world and they need diapers,” said Piersons.
“Every child, every baby deserves to have a clean, dry diaper to stay healthy.”
Donations can be brought to the organization’s center at 81 Willow Avenue in Hyannis, Christ the King Church in Mashpee and Monomoy Community Center.
