BOURNE – At approximately 3:17 p.m. Friday afternoon, Bourne Police Dispatch started to receive multiple calls regarding an erratic white pickup truck with a plow on it travelling westbound on Scenic Hwy. Reports continued coming in of the vehicle travelling “all over the road” and crossing over medians as it continued down the Routes 6/28 Bypass towards the West Rotary.
Officers located the vehicle in the West Rotary (near Wareham) and attempted a motor vehicle stop. The pickup truck failed to stop and continued around the rotary several times. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed by a Bourne Police officer. During the deployment, the vehicle drove at the officer forcing the officer to dive out of the way. With a flat front driver side tire, the truck continued driving and struck two vehicles in the rotary. It then continued around the West Rotary for a third time, nearly striking several other civilian vehicles and police vehicles. The truck slowed and came to a stop after striking a highway sign.
The 52 year old male from Sagamore Beach was found to be suffering from a medical condition and was transported to an area hospital. One operator of a vehicle struck by the plow was transported to an area hospital for evaluation of possible minor injuries.
The truck operator will be summoned for several motor vehicle related offenses.
