46th Scallop Fest to Feature New Rides, Food, Music

scallops01EAST FALMOUTH – An event hailed as one of the American Bus Association’s “Top 100 Events in America” for five years in a row is about to get underway.

This weekend, the 46th Annual Scallop Fest will take place at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds, 1220 Nathan Ellis Highway, Route 151.

This is the second straight year the festival will be held in East Falmouth.

This year’s entertainment includes a performance from the Adam Ezra Group, a home show focusing on décor and landscaping, a wooden boat build and auction from the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, cornhole tournaments, and food from Foodzilla on Wheels.

The event is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

According to Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber Executive director Marie Oliva, the event has its roots in a group of Buzzards Bay fisherman in 1969 who wanted to grow a cookout into a much larger event for the community.

It has since moved several times, due to an ever-increasing turnout, she said.

500 Volunteers are needed, according to Oliva, to make the event run smoothly, and the festival hasn’t quite reached that goal yet.

Oliva said volunteers will be repaid for their 5-hour shifts with free admission, a tee-shirt and discounted scallop dinner. Those interested can visit scallopfest.org.

Admission is $7 for adults, $2 for children ages 6 to 12 and those under 5 are admitted free. The cost of admission does not include the price of food.

All proceeds benefit the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber.
