Aquinnah Tribe’s Slot Parlor Plan Back in Focus

Tourism Industry Still Struggles One Year After KatrinaAQUINNAH – The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe will vote on a casino question at the tribe’s general membership meeting Sunday.

Tribal leaders want to convert their community center into a gambling hall. More than 70 signatures were collected on a petition challenging the conversion.

Opponents of the casino will need a two-thirds majority to overturn earlier votes to authorize it.

Separately, a U.S. District Court judge will hear legal arguments Wednesday on whether the tribe has a right to build and operate a gaming facility in Aquinnah.
