BARNSTABLE – Dredging operations within the Barnstable Harbor Entrance channel are scheduled to begin on or about November 1st according to Town engineer Paul Graves.
Hours of operation will vary depending on tides, but the work is permitted for 7 days a week. An estimated 6,868 cubic yards of sediments will be removed from the channel which is 60 feet wide.
The project involves mechanically dredging an estimated 6,868 yards of sediments from the existing 60-foot wide channel. Dredged materials will be disposed offshore at the Cape Cod Bay Disposal Site.
This will clear the channel to a depth of 6 feet below mean low water, greatly increasing navigational safety.
Boats will have access throughout the project which will be completed by late November or early December. Boaters are warned to use extreme caution when passing near the dredge rig.
The contractor will use a long-reach clamshell mounted on a 30-foot wide barge with a scow.
