CENTERVILLE – Veterans who have passed on will be part of the town of Barnstable’s Memorial Day ceremony today—in the form of photos
Lynne Poyant, the town of Barnstable’s Director of Community Services, said the traditional service will have a new feature this year. Scott Dutra, town of Barnstable Veterans Agent, is asking people to bring photos of their loved ones who are veterans who have passed on.
During the Beechwood Cemetery portion of the event, people will be asked to hold up the photos so the family members who have passed can be a part of the ceremony.
“I think what they would be looking for in future years is finding out from people what their veterans relatives have done and there probably are some that may be honored in the future,” Poyant said.
The Memorial Day procession begins in front of the Centerville Library and travels to Memorial Square for a service and then on to Beechwood Cemetery for a second ceremony.
The parade begins today at 10 a.m.
