Eversource Says it is Prepared for Summer, Gives Energy Tips

energy efficient lightbulbBARNSTABLE – With temperatures starting to get a little warmer, Eversource Energy says they are prepared for the higher usages of electricity that the summer brings.

Spokesman Mike Durand says there are simple energy efficiency tips for homeowners to keep their bills down including keeping window air conditioners in the shade and out of south-facing windows.

“If you can keep them on east side or the north side of the house they will certainly run more efficiently because they won’t have the sun beating down on them all day,” Durand said.

Eversource Energy also recommends keeping sunlight out of the home by using blinds, shades and drapes.

The energy company also said keeping air conditioner filters and coils clean and using fans along with air conditioners can also help to save energy and money.

Durand said the recent lowering of the supply rate for basic service customers will be right in time for the summer months.

“It’s almost going to be back down to where it was before those rates spiked in January,” he said. “And that will take effect as of July 1, which is right at the time where people will be using the most air conditioning.”

Eversource will be filing a new five-year grid modernization plan this summer that will introduce new technologies to further strengthen the electric grid.

The company will also continue to install new and stronger poles, wires and related system equipment along with year-round tree trimming to reduce tree-related outages.
