BREWSTER – An assisted living community in Brewster is collecting backpacks for a cause.
New backpacks, folders, notebooks and other school supplies will be collected through August 21 for children at the Eddy and Stony Brook Elementary schools by residents at EPOCH Assisted Living.
EPOCH Life Enrichment Director Sabrina Higgins said the effort is both charitable and strengthening to the community.
“Our residents really want to stay connected to the community as much as they can even though they’re here in an assisted living facility,” Higgins said. “It really gives them a sense of purpose to know they have that connection to the community.”
Higgins said the effort is timely as school supplies have seen an increase in price, leaving some parents having to decide between their child’s ease of education and bills.
Supplies can be donated at EPOCH’s community lobby, 855 Harwich Road, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
