SANDWICH – National Grid has briefly delayed the start of the project that will install 4.4 miles of gas main in Sandwich.
The western segments of the Sagamore Line Reinforcement Project were originally planned to begin this week with the clearing of trees between Service Road and Route 6.
National Grid Spokesman Jake Navarro says the work will begin shortly.
“It’s just been pushed back slightly just a few weeks,” Navarro said. “But we expect to start in mid-May.”
National Grid will be providing visual mitigation for homes within 300 feet of the project which will include replanting trees and shrubs.
Navarro said National Grid has already heard from neighbors about the mitigation with more contact expected.
“I would imagine we will continue to hear from folks throughout the next weeks and months as our construction work begins,” he said.
The work, which will be done in two phases, will run on the north side of Service Road between Route 130 and Chase Road.
The project is expected to be completed next year.
