Officials Seek Input for Harwich Center Revitalization

HARWICH – Town officials and business leaders in Harwich have formally begun a process to revitalize Harwich Center.

The Harwich Center Initiative Committee was recently appointed by the board of selectmen and tasked with finding ways to stimulate economic growth in the area.

Harwich Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cyndi Williams said the goal is to reinvigorate Harwich Center.

“We are looking to see how to bring in more businesses to complement the businesses we already have in Harwich Center,” Williams said.

Williams said the committee needs to gather input from stakeholders, property owners, businesses and residents in that area.

“What do you want to see happen here?’” Williams said. “What are the good things about Harwich Center? What are the challenges? And how can we altogether work to bring back that vitality?”

Williams said it will be a challenge to find the right mix of residential, historical and commercial properties while keeping the charm of Harwich Center.

“Some of the younger businesses may feel their vision isn’t exactly that so you kind of have to meet in the middle and have it all work,” she said.

The committee’s next meeting is January 16.

Invitations from the committee will be sent to area stakeholders, businesses and residents to voice their opinion about the future of the center.
