FALMOUTH – Opponents of the proposed $9.5 million senior center in Falmouth have scheduled a final meeting on Tuesday at Falmouth Public Library before the annual Town Election on May 16.
Around 60 residents attended an information session last month.
Falmouth town meeting member Carol Murphy said the ballot question is very vague.
“It does not mention the $9.5 million plus debt exclusion, nor does it mention the location, a very poor and inaccessible location of the Gus Canty Center on Main Street,” said Murphy.
Opponents are arguing that the new site for the senior center, located next to the Gus Canty Community Center, is too cramped and is not suitable for seniors.
“It’s a very congested area and it’s very, very difficult to even back up right now at the Gus Canty Center for just having that one building,” said Murphy.
They prefer the Brick Kiln Road site that is adjacent to the Jack and the Beanstalk store, because it is a safe and accessible location.
The new site, which includes a two-story building, has already won town meeting approval.
The meeting will be held from 5-6 p.m. in the Hermann Room of the Library.
Selectman Douglas Long will attend the meeting to speak in favor of the proposal.
