PLYMOUTH – The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant is back in operation after being automatically shut down October 5th.
Systems at the plant automatically shut down in what’s termed a SCRAM, due to a problem with an Automatic Regulating Valve, according to a statement from plant spokesman Patrick O’Brien.
O’Brien said there was no danger to the public, environment or plant staff during the event and staff would use the shutdown as an opportunity to perform maintenance. The Plant was reconnected to the grid Friday afternoon at about 2:30 and all systems were operating normally according to Entergy, the company that owns the facility.
O’Brien said the work done during the shutdown will enhance the reliability of the plant until its eventual shutdown in May of 2019.
