WELLFLEET – A new program and public health study is focusing on the consumption of fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods.
Those who are pre-diabetic, diabetic, suffer from high blood pressure or who simply have a desire to eat healthier may take part in a program being offered every Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lower Cape Outreach Council Wellfleet Food Pantry on Lieutenant Island Road.
The eight-week program will monitor participants’ health as they are given bags of fresh fruits and vegetables and recipes to utilize them.
A nurse from Barnstable County Public Health will assist each participant, taking note of blood pressure and glucose levels.
Lower Cape Outreach Council Chief Operating Officer Gennie Moran said she hopes the study will be valuable to the community.
“We’re trying to educate, that’s the key,” she said.
To sign up, call or visit the Council at 19 Brewster Cross Road, Orleans.
