BARNSTABLE – Although the Cape was mostly spared from this latest winter storm, one regular service helping Cape Codders has been affected.

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Agency usually provides bus transportation for Cape residents to Boston area hospitals, but that service has been impacted for the past few days.

“We haven’t sent [the hospital bus] up there,” said CCRTA Administrator Thomas Cahir. “The people who have been taking it certainly understand that the snow situation in the city is even worse than down here.”

Cahir said the shutdown of Boston MBTA service today has presented more transportation headaches for those needing to get to the city. “I’ve never seen that happen in all the years I’ve been involved in transportation,” Cahir said. In addition to serving as a state legislator for many years, Cahir served as deputy secretary for transportation programs, overseeing the commonwealth’s 15 transit authorities, and also as deputy secretary for intermodal and rail transportation programs, before taking his position at the CCRTA.
