BOURNE – Postponed from last night to this afternoon, the #3-seeded Barnstable High boys’ ice hockey team will face the 10th-seeded Hingham High Harbormen at the John Gallo Ice Arena at 4:30 pm.
The winner will face Xaverian on Sunday, March 8, at 6:15 pm at Gallo.
The Red Raiders are riding the wave of two dramatic, come-from-behind victories led in both instances by junior forward Matt Kaski who netted five goals combined in both.
Kaski’s hat-trick defeated the Marshfield Rams in sudden death double-overtime on Monday evening at Gallo and spring-boarded the Red Raiders to today’s much-anticipated affair. Barnstable is now 15-5-1. Hingham is 13-8-3 on the season after beating #7 seed Weymouth in the tourney-opener and then blanked the #2-seeded Wellesley team earlier this week.
The winner of today’s South Sectional Quarterfinal will face Xaverian, a team that Barnstable tied just two weeks ago. Top-seeded Xaverian defeated Duxbury last night, 4-1, just prior to Barnstable’s 8:00 pm game being postponed to today.
Either Hingham or Barnstable will face Xaverian on Sunday at the Gallo Ice Arena at 6:15 pm for the Division 1 South Sectional championship. Barnstable tied Xaverian two weeks ago in a 3-3 game that did not have a single penalty assessed to either side.
Every team seeded above Hingham – with the exceptions of Barnstable and Xaverian – have been eliminated from postseason play.
