Nantucket Sails Past Cape Cod Academy Girls

OSTERVILLE — The Nantucket Whalers wasted little time yesterday afternoon staking a lead against a feisty Cape Cod Academy and kept it that way en route to a 39-14 victory on the road.

The Whalers are now 5-7 on the season while the Seahawks drop to 1-10.

Nantucket had two players finish in the double-digits, with Lizzie Thayer dumping in 12 points and Jadelen Harold adding 10, but the damage could have been a lot worse.

The visiting Whalers went just 5-14 from the charity stripe while Cape Cod Academy made the most of its trips to the line by going 2-3.

Lilly Burke, Becca White, and Izzy Lifton each had four points for the Academy girls. Morgan Farber added the final two points for the hosts.

Nantucket jumped out to an early 13-2 lead and simply could not be shut down in the first half, while the guests did everything feasible to keep the hosts from scoring. By halftime, it was Nantucket 26 and Cape Cod Academy 6.

The second half had a slightly different tale to tell as the Seahawks attacked the Whalers with a defensive vengeance and outscored their guests 6-5 in the third frame. Nantucket posted an 8-2 deficit in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

The Whalers will head to Norfolk Aggie today for a 1:00 pm non-league affair.

Cape Cod Academy welcomes Holbrook today to the Thomas Evans Gymnasium for a 2:00 pm tilt.
