HYANNIS — In spite of a gutsy, concerted effort last night at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center, the Sturgis East girls basketball team could not snap out of its midseason funk.
The Storm fell to the Whitinsville Christian School, 43-39. Sturgis East is now 3-7 on the season.

Sturgis East’s Zoe Wright dropped in four points last night in a tough 43-39 loss to Whitinsville Christian.

Down by just two points at the half, Sturgis mounted a furious comeback but simply could not get the ball to drop in the bucket at the right moment.
Senior captain Meaghan Fitzgerald led the Storm with 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds while point guard Caroline Sullivan tallied 13 points.
Emma Nemes proved once again she’s a force-to-be-reckoned with beneath the rim, hauling down 12 rebounds. She also added four points to her effort. Zoe Wright tacked on four points as well, while Izzy Roberge had two points.
Sarah Poquette led Whitinsville with 17 points.
“(It was) back and forth all the way,” head coach Ted Pappas said. “(We) just didn’t get the bounces at the end. (It was) probably our best effort of the season.”
