Bouncer at Hyannis restaurant charged with choking out patron

HYANNIS – Barnstable Police are charging a bouncer at Torino’s Restaurant on Main St. in Hyannis with assault and battery – strangulation – after an incident early Saturday morning.

According to a police report, officers responded to Torino’s shortly after midnight for reports of a fight.

On arrival, they found several bouncers on top a man. Staff at the restaurant said he had been causing a disturbance and swinging at bouncers.

Officers also spotted bouncer Brandon McAndrew of Hyannis allegedly holding the patron in a choke hold. McAndrew told officers that every time they let him up, he began swinging again.

When Officer Nolan O’Melia asked McAndrew to back away, he realized the man  was unresponsive and unconscious. O’Melia immediately began to administer aid until he began breathing again and EMTs arrived.

According to the police report, McAndrew told officers that he knew if he choked out the man, he would get him to stop fighting.

McAndrew was later arrested and charged with assault and battery, strangulation or suffocation. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court.
