Brush fire doused overnight in Provincetown

PROVINCETOWN
– Provincetown Police report that it took firefighters just 45 minutes to contain a brush fire in the area of Beech Forest Trail early Monday morning. This time of year the trails are well-traveled and popular for those who enjoy biking, hiking, bird watching and walking.

At 3:01 AM, a National Park Ranger reported flames and the smell of smoke emanating from the area adjoining the parking lot.

Provincetown Fire Department units responded to the scene and located a brush fire burning in the area.

Firefighters had extinguished the fire and cleared the scene at 3:46 AM.

Provincetown Fire Chief Michael Trovato had command at the scene and reported to us that the cause of the fire was accidental and likely the result of carelessly-discarded smoking materials.
