CENTERVILLE – A pedestrian died early Sunday morning after being struck by a Barnstable Police cruiser in Centerville near the intersection of Route 28 and Cottage Lane.
The name of the male pedestrian was not immediately released. According to State Police, who are assisting in the investigation, the preliminary crash reconstruction indicates the victim was walking in the center of the road and was not at a crosswalk.
It further indicates that the Barnstable officer was responding to a call for service with the cruiser’s lights and siren activated when it struck the victim in the middle of Route 28. The officer was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
State Police said the collision reconstruction will take several weeks to complete in full.
