Wareham Police Officer suffers minor injuries in crash with alleged drunk driver

WAREHAM – A Wareham Police cruiser was damaged in an accident with an alleged drunk driver early Friday morning, and the the officer slightly injured.

Officer Peter Silvia was on patrol around 12:30 a.m. when he was struck by another car on Cranberry Hwy. in the area of Shenanigan’s Bar & Grill.

Sylvia was traveling south, when an oncoming northbound vehicle driven by Sean McCrillis, 23, of Wareham, attempted to make a left turn into the restaurant parking lot.

McCrillia collided with the cruiser, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

Silvia sustained minor injuries and was taken to Tobey Hospital for evaluation. McCrillis was not hurt.

McCrillis was placed under arrest at the scene, charged with the following:

  1. Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol
  2. Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  3. Failure to Yield to Oncoming Traffic.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on the criminal charges at Wareham District Court.
