The Aftermath of Winter

By KAREN BLAKEKarenBlakeBlogImage

I am at my wits’ end. I know I am not alone, but with all the snow and ice we’ve had, I have had problems.

Situation #1: The other day when I woke up and stumbled around getting ready for work, I looked up at the wall in my bedroom that abuts my backyard and noticed a pucker. I got up on a step stool and felt it. Sure enough, it was filled with water. Yes, it was an ice dam: the water was dripping in from ice in my gutters! Ugh.

Situation #2: I go down my basement to relax, to watch TV. It’s a very pleasant basement. The walls are a warm yellow. It’s finished and decorated nicely. Well, I look up at the ceiling and what do I see but three water stains. I immediately tense up and almost start to cry just thinking of all the work my husband and I did to fix up the basement.

I realized that the water came in from the deck, which was coated in a thick sheet of ice. It had worked its way down to my basement ceiling.

So now what the heck do I have to do? Have the ceiling cut open? Have the insulation removed and plastered back up again? Will my insurance cover it? Will I have to take the money out of my pocket?  Ugh! This is becoming overwhelming.WinterSnowIce

Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?  Pretty soon there will be. Before we know it, we’ll be turning the clocks ahead and spring will be here.

Honestly, it can’t get here fast enough for me. Even still, you know I’ll be dealing with the aftermath of this winter for months to come!
