For hearty meals and a cozy, spirited atmosphere, head to the Sandwich Taverna at 290 Route 130 in Sandwich.
It’s not your average pub – an combination of Western imagery, bright colors and film memorabilia line the interior, and the extensive menu is a similar display of broad tastes and culinary talents.
Perhaps the most endearing part of an experience at the Sandwich Taverna, besides the stick-to-your-ribs food, is the family friendly price. Locals herd in like hungry cattle for their various deal nights and specials.
Their Facebook, which details these specials and special events, claims this joint is the “place to be” – and their regular customers and online reviewers are inclined to agree.
The Menu at Sandwich Taverna
This part-steakhouse, part-pub, part-Mexicali-pizza joint has a four-page menu, not including specials. But each of those four pages is quite literally packed with information, such that it just might equal out to 8 pages if spaced out a bit.
The first part of the menu is pure comfort food. Appetizers include tried-and-true snack food like nachos and potato skins, but also some unusual takes like breaded cauliflower or sweet tater tots with chipotle ranch.
There are 12 varieties of beef and pork cuts to be had, including sirloin and ribeyes, teriyaki tips, Kansas City-style BBQ ribs, cranberry pork chops and Greek-style chops.
The sandwich section shows nearly as much variety, with pulled pork, a pastrami melt, and Santa Fe chicken highlighting the heavier fare. But don’t overlook the veggie burger! This lighter, smoky stack of beans and grains has a pleasant smoky finish and comes topped with onions and guacamole.
The Sandwich Taverna also has a couple head-turning flavors of pizza, with items like The Gilooly (tomatoes, genoa salami and mozzarella) and grilled chicken basil with roasted red peppers.
Prices and Deals at the Sandwich Taverna
If you look at a few of the online reviews, patrons of the Taverna are pretty psyched over the amount of deals and steals available on any given Tuesday (or Wednesday, or Thursday…)
On Mondays, it’s buy one pizza, get another free. Tuesdays are a bit more expansive: everything on the menu is half off. Wednesdays are taco nights, featuring a two-table-long, all-you-can-eat taco bar. Thursdays are half-price burger night (including that veggie burger).
Live Music at the Sandwich Taverna
The Taverna times those deals nights with live music to further tempt both gustatory and auditory palates. Karaoke nights light up the place with brave friends gathered around under low lights and with the extra jolt of bravery which only margaritas can provide.
