Bacon Wins Selectmen’s Race in Wellfleet, Firefighter Funding Approved

WELLFLEET – Voters in Wellfleet elected Kathleen Bacon to an open seat the Board of Selectmen Monday.

She defeated Thomas Flynn 440 to 186. Berta Bruinooge did not seek re-election.

Voters also approved a $147,000 proposition 2 1/2 override to fund two additional full-time firefighters. Residents also passed a $108,000 debt exclusion to pay for the town’s share of a building needs study for Nauset Regional High School.

They also passed a non-binding resolution directing town government to ask Gov. Charlie Baker to support the expedited transfer of spent fuel at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station to dry cask storage. The ballot question, spearheaded by the Cape Downwinders, also appears in other towns across the region.
